Let me second Peggy's words by offering John congratulations on this
important move. NEH and all of us who care about community-based
humanities support and programming will be all the better for his presence
at the Endowment. I will, however, miss John on the AFC board. Best of
luck, John, and hope to see you soon,
Tom

>Many thanks for this wonderful message. I deeply appreciate your kind words

>strengthen the support we can offer you as you develop programs at the
>American Folklife Center.

>I look forward to seeing you again soon.

>Greetings Everyone!!
>
>You will be receiving a packet in the mail later this week with our
>draft Strategic Plan, our draft Bylaws, plane tickets (for some),
>agendas, and other useful information to prepare for our February
>17-18 Board Meeting.
>
>I wanted to write now, however, to give you some breaking news. Many
>of you may know this by now, but our own Dr. John Roberts has been
>named the new Deputy Director of the National Endowment for the
>Humanities!! This is wonderful news for the country and sad news for
>us. John has had to resign from the AFC Board of Trustees, since he
>is no longer a "private citizen". Although we will miss him as one of
>our Librarian-appointed members, we hope to see him at times as he may
>assist Bill and Wilsonia to represent the NEH in their ex-officio
>status.
>
>I know you extend hearty congratulations to John on this new
>appointment, and also to Bill for getting such a wonderful deputy!!
>Since they are both on this list, let me resoundingly say that we are
>very pleased and look forward to working with you both, and Wilsonia,
>as our NEH team. As we implement our strategic plan in the coming
>months and years, we hope to work collaboratively with the NEH on
>several projects and initiatives.
