Many of the broadcast recordings on 16" discs were from WWII sent to
both troops and allies for rebroadcasts, along with music for the troops.
Many of these are held by the National Archives here:

Milo Ryan, a professor at the University of Washington (state)
retrieved these from KIRO broadcasting station and published a book
about the recordings. Some of these still exist on tape at the
University. The discs were eventually stored at Sand Point in Seattle,
then transferred to the National Archives in DC.

Milo attended the first exploratory 1965 meeting which led to the
founding of ARSC in 1966.
His book (a catalog of the discs) appears to be still available on
Amazon.
