Those are excellent questions! One other thing you want to check on is if it's set up for NAB or IEC eq. When I worked at CBC we had A77s set up for each of those curves since we aired both European and American tapes. Many machines are able to be switched between the two characteristics, such as the TEAC X2000 M, but the A77 isn't one of them.
