I don't know that John Berg was a household name, even in this house, but I
thought this might resonate with at least a few on this list.
It is easy to forget how much the package is one of the major factors in
one's lating memory of an album. To repeat an oft expressed sentiment on
this list, there is something that a download lacks and that is the
tangible carrier that most of us have enjoyed for so long. The
miniaturization that took place with the coming of the CD was a minor
annoyance compared to the downloads that usually come with nothing and even
those with accompanying PDFs, a weak substitute at best.
I particularly enjoyed the commentary on his George Szell Beethoven 5th
album cover that is towards the end of the article.
