Hi Gary,

Good point!

At MGM we used to leave 1 minute of blank (Digital Black, actually) 
then, TC started at 57 minutes with 30 seconds of 1K @ -20DBFS, then 
modulation started at the top of the hour. So, there was, at least, 4 
minutes before audio started on any given DAT. The DAT tape was 
pre-striped and the deck was put in Chase mode, locked to a TC generator 
(locked to house sync) . For DA88's we used to buy them pre-formatted 
(Tascam brand, IIRC) and then pre-stripe the TC to the MGM format. To 
record audio on a DA88, we used the same method as DAT's.
