Thanks for your suggestion, but I transfer the records using a stereo cartridge so that I can delete the noisier channel.
That' sometimes gets rid of more than half the surface noise.
I don't think your idea would work in this case.
I'm going to try the other suggestion - to transfer at 33 1/3 rpm, then increase the speed to the proper pitch.
That might help to decrease or eliminate the "wooh-wooh" noise.
I'll still have to experiment to find the best stylus for the job (truncated, elliptical, conical, etc.).
