I've never found making shelving to be a problem - for me it's having the space to put them up in - a music room has to have SOME kind of dance floor!

Tell me about it! Getting near on-going (several weeks) effort to organize CD shelves after ignoring them for at least 5 years. Needed to make room for more than 4 horizontal feet of new material. I don't acquire very many LPs by choice anymore, but people keep giving me interesting items and I can't resist prowling the bins at good record shops when I'm in the area.
Probably most depressing in this sort-out was discovering how much I don't have in my digital library yet, so I'm not listening to it as frequently as I might like to because it's not as easily accessible. I've started "churning" the iPod a bit, looking at the last time things have been played and deciding if the material at the bottom of the list really needs to be in my collection.

By gatefold I mean single albums in a gatefold, such as Impulse and Command from the 60's. Double albums measure out to about the same as two single albums. Box sets are slightly less horizontal space per LP, on average, although some classical and opera sets are actually wider because they'll have 2 LPs and a large book.
