The reason why I'm interested in trvordings of the song is because I
translated into Danish.

Jeg har hørt dem synge til aftenmalkningen
Pigerne synger før dagen gryr.
Nu er der en stønnen på hver en grønne eng.
Skovens blomster er alle visnet bort.

Ved malkestien om morgenen, ingen ubekymrede drenge foragter
Pigerne er ensomme og triste og sorgfulde.
Ingen leger, ingen sladder, kun suk og hulk.
Hver løfter sin mælkespand og så skynder hun sig væk.

Ved aften tusmørket, ingen unge mænd vandrer,
I høstakke med pigerne og leger skjul;
Men hver pige sidder sorgfuld, beklagede hendes kære.
Skovens blomster er alle visnet bort.

I høsten klipning, er der nu ingen hujende unge,
Høstarbejderne er rynket, med hvidt striber hår, eller gråt;
Ingen frieri, ingen sladder på markedet eller ved prædikenen.
Skovens blomster er alle visnet bort.

Ak og ve for ordren som sendte vores drenge til grænsen,
De engelske, ved svig, for en gangs skyld vandt den dag.
Skovens blomster, der kæmpede forrest,
Det fineste i vort land er i den kolde ler.

Vi har ikke mere sang til aftenmalkningen.
Kvinder og børn er triste og sorgfulde,
