This is precisely why Universal or any other donor can't be expected to
transfer ownership the copyrights. They don't necessarily own them. There
has never been a "standard recording contract."
One of the consequences of the massive drop in catalog sales has been labels
being unable to afford appropriate storage. Undoubtedly the day was
approaching when Universal would have been forced to destroy those masters
if they couldn't find a responsible party to care for them. I worry about
