Hopefully last time:

 

From time to time among the many alerts we send out to our music librarian
clients there is a title of a historical nature or an oddity.

 

Those are the things we post here & I have seen many threads of discussions
about them.

 

Since it is common knowledge that MUSIC HUNTER is not in the individual
consumer business I'm surprised that some here consider it a commercial
post.

 

We simply do not have the time to tailor a post for you & so we just cc your
forum.

 

As for the reasons we do not service individual consumers:

1-      We have a contract with United Parcel Service and they handle all of
our orders.

UPS gives us a discount for legitimate commercial deliveries of $ 3.40 PER
PACKAGE. UPS does not consider a home office a legitimate commercial
address.

UPS has a minimum billing weight of one pound. We can ship 4 CDs or DVDs
properly packaged within that one pound.

Orders of 1 or 2 CDs become costly per title as UPS charges us for one pound
even if we simply send a single piece of paper. This fact, combined with not
receiving the UPS discount for a commercial delivery makes it very costly
for an individual consumer.

 

2-      Our library clients give Music Hunter bone-fide purchase orders for
the CDs & DVDs they order. The funds are set aside and when our shipments
arrive, they include our invoice showing the purchase order information, 

etc .The libraries then mail MUSIC HUNTER their checks. We have been
servicing libraries since 1945 and have never had a check bounce for any
reason. In addition, Music Hunter has never had to contact a library
requesting payment. When we had our Record Hunter retail chain, we did
consumer mail order. Quite a few consumer checks bounced for various reasons
but from the consumers viewpoint, it was always the bank's fault. Not being
retailers, this is not an issue we need be concerned with.

 

3-      Because libraries pay us promptly, there has never been a reason to
incur the expenses and additional paperwork associated with accepting credit
cards. I'm sure that you all understand that the equipment, monthly account
expenses, and transaction fees are built into the prices that vendors charge
when accepting credit card sales.

 

4-      Libraries order many CDs & DVDs. A good amount of our orders include
links from other vendors.

 

5-      Individual consumer requests, for the most part, are for 1 or 2
titles and for a company like Music Hunter that does not maintain a website
require a lot of back & forth communication. Yes, there are exceptions where
individuals buy more but we simply are not in that business.

 

6-      The cost of properly maintaining a website is built into prices that
you pay. To think otherwise is naive.

 

THE BOTTOM LINE IS, SINCE YOU KNOW MUSIC HUNTER IS NOT SOLICITING YOUR
BUSINESS, WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE AN ALERT FROM TIME TO TIME OF A HISTORICAL
OR ODD NATURE THAT MAY RESULT IN DSICUSSION THREADS?

informative.
