What are the alternatives for playing 16-inch records?

The writing has been on the wall for some time. The first indication was when they stopped making gimbal bearing units citing their machinery had broken, this was about 2 years ago. Strangely though, and probably because the knife-edge bearing replacement did not cut it, they were able to re-introduce the gimbal type bearing again later.
Both Timestep and George Blood bought up stocks for their own customers and facilities, before this was announced.
There are of course more expensive alternatives.
