Hi all, I wanted to send a quick update about implementation of Cyrillic,
Hebrew, and Greek newly available scripts in OCLC. I sent a message last
November to the CONSER email list. It included input from CPSO, Serial
Record Division, CDS and other LC staff and it asked that CONSER members
not add these scripts to CONSER records in OCLC until March 2006, until we
could do some testing here at LC.
Well, our schedule slipped a bit but we are now looking at test records
contributed by several CONSER members (thanks!). Its looks pretty good as
far as distribution of records through CDS, but there are a few unanswered
questions yet for certain categories of records. A group here at LC will
be checking on a couple of different scenarios with CONSER, BIBCO and LC
records. We will also need to work with OCLC to test interactions
involving LC records- we won't be using the scripts here locally for a
while yet, so another scenario to look at is where a PCC member adds the
scripts to an LC authenticated record in OCLC.
We expect to have more information by the time of the BIBCO and CONSER
operations meeting, April 27-28th
