There is a Windows 2000 version of XMetaL 2.1 available from SoftQuad. It allows you to work with either
SGML or XML. The bods at the Bodleian Library think it is great. XML-Emacs will also run under win2000 and is
free.
xt *was* a great piece of software but it doesn't conform to the version 1 specification. We use
instant saxon which you can download from:
http://users.iclway.co.uk/mhkay/saxon/
