Dear Colleagues,

I'd like to announce that the Society of California Archivists (SCA) is
offering a pre-conference workshop about exploring XML for archivists. The
workshop is open to non-members and you can register for it separately (or
without) attending the SCA Annual General Meeting in Santa Rosa,
California. Please note that you must register by April 6th, 2001.

Thursday, April 26, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.
Exploring XML: eXtensible Mark-Up Language
Instructor: Richard Marciano, UC San Diego Super Computing Center
programmer and a participant in the NHPRC-funded project entitled
"Methodologies for Preservation and Access to Electronic Records."

Geared towards the needs of archivists, this introductory workshop will
provide an overview of available XML tools currently used to create
documents and retrieve data on the web, discuss XML's use in data
management, and explore new applications of XML including
collection-based persistent digital archives and topic maps.
Participants are also encouraged to bring their thoughts for discussions
about archival issues where online tools could help resolve archival
challenges.

Visit http://calarchivists.org/ and select "AGM 2001 Program" or
"Registration Form" for more details.
