I encoded a very detailed finding aid for a collection that consists of
17th-18th manuscripts; the curator wanted all of the information
included in the EAD finding aid. [The entire finding aid is available
at: http://special.lib.umn.edu/findaid/xml/jfb01.xml]
This is how I encoded the information, although there are many options
that might work. ---

<p>Notes: The document makes the case for the armament of the mission
Amerindians on the grounds that these would provide a needed buffer
against Portuguese incursions into Peru.</p>

I agree that encoding a collection of books into EAD may not make sense,
especially if there are MARC records, but it does allow a researcher to
see the totality of a collection that might not be as recognizable with
multiple MARC records.
