NOTICE OF VACANCY
DATE OF NOTICE: March 5, 2012
POSITION: Graduate Assistant, Library Services - Technical Services
DATE OF APPOINTMENT: August 20, 2012 - May 13, 2013 (20 hours per week)
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Review of applications will begin March 12, 2012 and continue until position is filled.
SALARY RANGE: $4,500 per semester stipend plus full tuition remission up to 18 graduate credits during the academic year. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for tuition waiver.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary responsibility will be original cataloging and complex copy-cataloging of all types of library resources, particularly theses,
electronic resources (such as e-books, integrating resources, and databases), and other resources acquired by the Library. The GA will
receive practical training, experience and knowledge of working with an integrated library system, OCLC Connexion, AACR2, RDA,
MARC 21, LSCH, and other cataloging standards. Other work related to technical services may also be assigned when the need
arises, including but not limited to, electronic resources management and metadata manipulation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program.
* Enrollment in an MSU graduate degree program.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Must be highly organized and have strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
* Good oral and written communication skills.
* Attention to detail and an ability to look at the big picture are essential.
* Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.

Graduate Assistants are required to enroll for a minimum of 6 graduate credits per semester. Contingent upon satisfactory performance
and available funds, there is a possibility that this appointment may be continued beyond the initial period of employment. Additional
