Please join us for the next in our regular monthly series of free
Department of the Interior Library Park Ranger Speaker Series lectures on
"Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens" on Tuesday, July 21st from 1:00 -
1:45 pm in the Department of the Interior Library.

The beauty of land, water, and wind combine as one at Kenilworth Park
Aquatic Gardens and marsh.  This natural area of Anacostia Park has its
origins in a 1926 act authorizing parks to preserve forests and natural
scenery.  Although Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens are locally
important today as a part of Washington's park system, its greater
significance lies in its contribution to the botanical study and
development of water plants and gardens under the direction of its founder,
W.B. Shaw and his daughter, L. Helen Fowler.  It continues today as a noted
water garden under the Park Service.

Please join Park Rangers Ian Lothian and Wayne Phillips for an examination
of the history and natural beauty of Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens.
Find out why these wetlands along the Anacostia River provide such an
important natural and educational resource to the city of Washington.
