Gettysburg College is a highly selective liberal arts college located
ninety minutes from the Baltimore/Washington area. Established in
1832, the College has a rich history and is situated on a 220-acre
campus with an enrollment of approximately 2,100 students.
INFORMATION RESOURCES
The Division of Information Resources (IR) is a merged division of
computer and library staff, with five operational teams, which
operates in a highly advanced network environment with a mission of
total information service to the campus community.
Collection Development Specialist - (search re-opened) We seek a
flexible, innovative, service-oriented individual to join the IR team
responsible for developing the College's collections, both print and
electronic; working with vendors; consulting with faculty and dealing
with issues ranging from book selection, and journals acquisition to
hardware and software adoptions; and for collaborating with faculty
to integrate new technology applications in the curriculum.
Qualifications: Applicants should have an MLS from an
ALA-accredited program or Masters or Ph.D. level subject specialty,
and should present a depth of knowledge on a variety of collection
issues facing academic institutions and have experience designing
subject and format specific collection development policies.
Knowledge of reference sources and experience working in the public
services side of libraries are desirable. Demonstrated abilities in
budget preparation, project management, and contract negotiation
skills, as well as excellent writing, interpersonal relations,
problem-solving and verbal communication skills preferred. Minimum
three or more years of experience in an academic library facility is
desired.
Bibliographic Instruction Librarian -We seek an individual to assist
faculty and students in attaining maximum access to print and
electronic reference sources. This individual will design and
deliver instructional programs on the access, retrieval, and
evaluation of information resources with a particular focus on Web
and Internet sources. It will be essential for this individual to
work closely with faculty to meet their curricular and research
needs.
Qualifications: An MLS, MIS or equivalent degree required.
Applicants must have a strong grasp of the current state of
information technology and be able to communicate complex information
in non-technical terms. Excellent interpersonal skills and the
ability to work within a team framework are required.
Acquisitions Librarian - We invite applications for a creative,
computer saavy technical services oriented professional with an
interest in emerging technologies and their application in a library
setting. Oversees the material acquisitions budget, manages all
vendor relationships related to the purchase of scholarly materials
and works with staff in the management of a current collection of
approximately 300,000 volumes, 1400 active serials titles, 15,000
audio visual materials and over 37,000 microforms. Administers the
division's approval plan for monographic purchases, participates in
collection development activities, and helps identify and provide
access to materials available electronically. Maintains effective
communication with academic departments. Understands the interaction
of traditional, non-print and electronic information resources and
translates that into an acquisitions policy designed to keep pace
with current trends and to meet users' needs. Supervises
acquisitions and serials staff.
Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS with three or more years of
increasing professional responsibility and leadership. Experience in
an academic library setting essential. Experience with issues
related to serials, research collection management, information
technology, automation, publishing trends and the electronic delivery
of information essential. Knowledge of MARC format, OCLC and
automated acquisition systems essential. Experience with Innovative
Interfaces and one foreign language highly desired. Supervisory and
budget management experience essential. Strong leadership,
communication and decision-making abilities necessary.
The appointments are 12-month administrative appointments. Salaries
are commensurate with education and experience. A highly competitive
