You may have received this message numerous times already, but some
federal librarians thought it didn't apply to them. So I want to be
clear:
All federal libraries of ANY size, whether operated by federal or
contract staff, in the US or overseas, should designate someone to fill
out the Outsell survey before COB June 20, 2004. In order to have
accurate conclusions about the full range of federal libraries, we need
to hear from everyone!
The full message is pasted below.

Attention Members of the Federal Library and Information Community:
The online questionnaire for Outsell, Inc.'s annual study, "The
Changing Roles of Content Management Functions," is now available at
http://www.digisurvey.com/login.php?u=outsell&p=survey and will be
available until June 20. This year the questionnaire is
significantly shorter than the 2003 survey and is both savable and
printable. Outsell, Inc. will be providing federal respondents to the
survey with a copy of the government sector report.
Please take time to log in and complete the questionnaire. The data
gathered in this survey will pinpoint changes and highlight challenges
for content management functions. The results will provide valuable
insights into the strategic direction of government libraries and will
update the findings of the last official census of federal libraries,
conducted in 1994.
This first part of a two-part study focuses on organization,
reporting,
users, staff, services, content management, strategic management,
marketing, and metrics. You will also be invited to participate in
part
two of this study, which will take place in the fall of 2004 and will
concentrate on budgets, spending, content types, content deployment
and
vendors.
FLICC has worked with Outsell in the design of their Web-based
questionnaire to ensure its relevancy to federal libraries. Our hope
is
that a manager or administrator from every federal library and
information center will complete the study. For those in headquarters
or central libraries, please forward this message on to your
colleagues
for their participation. Please note that responses to the survey
will
be treated as confidential and will be reported only in the aggregate
and not used for marketing purposes.
If you have any questions about the survey or if you would like more
information regarding this study, please send an email to

Thank you for your help with this important project.
