BAKER & TAYLOR BEGINS ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN OCLC PROMPTCAT SERVICE
DUBLIN, Ohio, June 10, 1997--Baker & Taylor Books, a leading supplier of
books and related services, is now an active participant in the OCLC
PromptCat service.
The OCLC PromptCat service delivers cataloging records for any title
supplied by participating vendors that has a monographic record in WorldCat
(the OCLC Online Union Catalog). Records arrive at libraries at the same
time as library materials sent by the vendor, and the libraries* holding
symbols are set in WorldCat.
"OCLC delivers a valuable cataloging service to the library community, which
Baker & Taylor*s participation will only enhance," said Frank Daly, vice
president of business development at Baker & Taylor. "Through this new
relationship, our mutual objective is to save libraries time and money in
obtaining cataloging for their new materials."
"OCLC and Baker & Taylor share many mutual users who can benefit from the
relationship of our two organizations," said Marda Johnson, director, OCLC
Collections and Technical Services. "OCLC looks forward to building a solid
partnership to bring current materials and cataloging information to the
library communities that our organizations serve."
Baker & Taylor distributes a wide range of products--books, video, audio,
software and related services--to school, public, university and special
libraries worldwide as well as government agencies and more than 100,000
bookstores. One of Forbes* Top 500 Private Companies for the past three
years, Baker & Taylor distributes more than 1 million titles annually and
maintains a database of over 3.1 million current American, British,
Australian and European English-language titles.
Baker & Taylor joins five participating book vendors, including Academic
Book Center, Ambassador Book Service, Blackwell North America, Majors
Scientific Books and Yankee Book Peddler. Other vendors who have agreed to
join the OCLC PromptCat service are Book Clearing House, Casalini Libri, DA
Information Services, Eastern Book Company, Iberbook International, Puvill
Libros and Rittenhouse Books.
OCLC Online Computer Library Center is a nonprofit, membership, computer
library service and research organization whose computer network and
services link more than 24,000 libraries in 63 countries and territories
