U.S. Naval Academy
The Nimitz Library, United States Naval Academy, seeks applications for
an experienced cataloger with energy, initiative, and enthusiasm.
Specific responsibilities will be to:
-- create original cataloging and Library of Congress classification
for all materials, except serials, in monographic, electronic, and
audio-visual formats;
-- prepare retrospective and original cataloging for the Special
Collections, to include rare and/or unique items;
-- perform authority work and resolution of problems in the Innovative
Interfaces online library database; and
-- report to the Head of Cataloging.
The strongest candidates will be self-motivated, flexible team players,
comfortable with change while also appreciative of the importance of
continuities.
The Naval Academy is the Navy’s undergraduate college, with 4,150
students, more than 500 civilian and military faculty, and 18 major
fields of study in three academic divisions (seven in Engineering, seven
in Math & Science, and four in Humanities/Social Sciences). The Academy
has produced five Rhodes Scholars in the last ten years alone.
The Nimitz Library has a user-oriented staff of 41 FTE (including 18
professional librarians) and some 550,000 volumes of books and bound
periodicals, plus government documents, microforms, extensive holdings
in Special Collections and Archives, and a growing array of electronic
resources. "Library Excellence" is one of the initiatives in the Naval
Academy's Strategic Plan, and the Library has been receiving significant
budgetary increases for acquisitions. For additional information about

Located in Annapolis, the capital of Maryland and “the sailing capital
of America”, the Naval Academy is 30 miles from both Washington, D.C.,
and Baltimore, in the beautiful Chesapeake Bay Area.
Beginning salary will be at least the first step ($46,469) of the GS-11
pay grade, higher depending on experience or other qualifications.
