I'm probably not interested in this right now, but I used to
be, and had no luck. At the time there was a formal program
run by OPM. I think it may not exist anymore, but you might
call them.
I found a potential job-sharing partner through the
Washington Post classifieds. We weren't a good enough
match, really. She was not Federal. We never applied for
any jobs. Using this listserv probably would work better
for you.
Just out of curiosity, what's your area?
I'm a reference librarian.
If I manage to get pregnant again, I might become interested
in this again.
I think what generally seems to work best, if you want to
work part-time, is to sell your own employer on it. You
might try to advertise for half of your current job (if you
have one).
The problem with part-time work is it's very easy to end up
almost completely marginalized. You're at the bottom of the
barrel, and get the worst assignments and the least
consideration.
I worked part-time for several years - first with
Gannett/USA Today Library in Rosslyn, VA, and then with the
U.S. Dept. of State Library in Foggy Bottom, Washington,
D.C. My daughter was very young - she's 12 now. I had
worked for USA Today when I got pregnant. They were open to
hiring part-timers because they are open a lot of hours.
They may still be.
Of course, it's still better than quitting work altogether.
What makes part-time work appealing to you?
If it's because you have a young child, be aware that your
child care options may be more limited and more expensive
(considering hourly rate) than for a full-timer.

This is a message to any librarian who would like to find a
part-time federal
library position and/or job share a federal library position
in the D.C. area.
I am interested in finding someone who either could apply
with me for any
announced positions or who is already working full-time but
needs someone to
share his or her position. We may not need to exactly match
skills, but might
be able to sell a potential employer on the wide range of
skills we could
offer together. If interested, please email Beth Blevins
