Dear Haavard
1. Please note that in allocating the code for Ndebele, South (Nrebele),
as per the agreement in Washington DC, the notation "nr" is free, and
would fit in with the name Nrebele which is an accepted alternative
name for this language, as the Ethnologue notes:
------------------------------------------------------------
Current ISO 639-2 & ISO 639-1 Language name
------------------------------------------------------------
nbl -- Ndebele, South (Nrebele)
(South Africa)
nde nd * Ndebele, North (Sindebele, Tebele)
(Zimbabwe, Botswana)
------------------------------------------------------------
2. In passing, you might like to consider whether there are any
advantages in the base names being changed too, e.g. as
------------------------------------------------------------
nbl nr Nrebele, (Ndebele, South)
(South Africa)
nde nd * Tebele, (Ndebele, North; Sindebele)
(Zimbabwe, Botswana)
------------------------------------------------------------
However, there are pros and cons to point 2. above.
I look forward to seeing how the new codes are allocated.
Best regards
John Clews
