The relatedItem type "otherFormat" is defined in the MODS guidelines as:
"Information concerning another format (i.e. change in physical format) of the resource."
otherFormat is possible, although it might be debatable whether this is a change in physical format vs. an alternate representation of the content. (sound vs. text).
The use of "constituent" in the recordedEvent object is related to the fact that, as a METS document, it is considered a package with multiple parts and the transcript is a constituent of the whole, which would be the interview.
Since all the MODS elements are defined as subelements of relatedItem you could describe the transcript as fully as you want.

Shelley,
Sounds reasonable. Our approach is to say the whole thing is a METS recordedEvent, since there may not be a single main type, but a group of things, for example a program, transcript, photos, and audio/video.

Hi Nate,
Thanks for the examples. In looking at the list of possible values for <relatedItem> types, I wonder if "constituent" would be the correct type for a transcript of a recorded interview. If the main description in the MODS record is for the sound recording and I wanted to also describe aspects of the transcript, wouldn't I use <relatedItem type="otherFormat"> to describe the transcript?
Thanks,
Shelley
