Network Bulletin No. 98-12
Date: February 20, 1998
Subject: Research Study
Index term: Information for your network library newsletters
The Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Blindness
and Low Vision at the Mississippi State University has
received a grant from the National Institute on Disability
and Rehabilitation Research to conduct a national study of
the employment status of individuals who are blind or
severely visually impaired. These researchers believe that
the blind and visually impaired residents of the United
States served by the NLS network of cooperating libraries
would be a suitable audience for their research.
The researchers understand the confidentiality issues
involved and are not asking any network library for patron
names or addresses. They will be contacting network
libraries to request that the library include information
about the study in its newsletter or about the possible
dissemination of a letter to patrons inviting volunteers to
participate in a brief telephone interview. All individual
consumer responses would remain confidential, and there
would be no linkage between names and responses when the
study is published.
The individuals conducting the study are Dr. Elton Moore and
Dr. Brenda Cavenaugh.
