Color coding for replacement parts
[Imagine not Available To see imagine refer to prnt copy that was mailed to the
network on December 2, 2005]
NLS introduced a color-coded marking system in 2001 to track the year in which
drive kits and/or heads are installed during repairs. The system, which provides
technicians with useful information about the long-life rubber drive parts, and will be
continued for 2006.
For the calendar year 2006, the repair technicians will mark newly installed parts with
a __brown__ Sharpie marker (PN AID-09BR) supplied by NLS. The mark will alert
technicians on subsequent repairs that these parts were replaced in the year 2006 and
should be tested for correct operation before replacement is considered. Heads should
be marked with a digit indicating the number of times they have been replaced within
the calendar year e.g., the first head being replaced in 2006 (whether unmarked or
marked in a color from a previous year) will be marked "1" in __brown.__ If that
head is replaced again during 2006, it will be marked "2." Thus, if a machine is
returned for repair with a head marked "2," the technician will know that it has been
replaced twice during 2006.
For your reference, below is a table of color codes and the years they indicate. We
request that all repair technicians follow this method of marking the parts.
NOTE: This system provides an approximate indication of when the parts were
changed. It is preferable to put a sticker inside the machine (either in the battery door
or inside the botto`m cover) that details the machine repair. Such a sticker must
include date of repair, technician's initial, and a listing of the major repair parts
replaced. Repair operations that use the sticker are not required to use the marker.
