As reported in the summary minutes of the joint meeting of the BIBCO
and CONSER Operations Committees held in May 1998, a draft PCC values
statement was formulated and sent forward to the PCC Steering Committee
for review. Since that time the statement has also been reviewed and
revised by members of the PCC Standing Committee on Training and the PCC
Policy Committee.
Here for your consideration, cogitation, etc. is the version
of the values statement that is to be posted to the PCC home page.
Addition, comments, etc. are welcome. Please respond to the list

PCC Values Statement
The Program for Cooperative Cataloging and its membership value:
+ the timely creation and maintenance of authoritative,
cost-effective cataloging records by knowledgeable catalogers at
many institutions;
+ quality cataloging records, rich enough in content to be used
with little or no modification at the local level and reasonable
enough in cost to be generated in large numbers;
+ working in a manner that fosters and reflects cooperation,
collegiality, professional judgment, and service to the user
+ the PCC's role in providing leadership in the bibliographic
community in the form of continuing education, development of
standards, and enabling more effective use of automation.
