The most informative bit of Tillett's presentation is, IMO:
WORK is realized by an EXPRESSION is embodied in a MANIFESTATION is
exemplifed by an ITEM
This doesn't fit nicely into CQL as they're one to many relationships.
Can someone put the following set of relationships into FRBR?
Froissart from 1360 to 1400 (or thereabouts) wrote and revised
his Chronicle of the 100 years war (4 books, 1st book has 3 major
versions, the first major version has 3 minor versions, each of which has
between 5 and 20 different exemplars)
Between 1405-1420, a team in Paris copied and illuminated one of the A
versions of book 1. It was later combined with a version of book 2. This
physical manuscript is now in the Morgan Library in New York.
Between 1998 and 2000, I dutifully transcribed that manuscript's text into
XML. This is available in TeX, Xml, PDF and DHTML. I have a copy of the
rendered TeX version printed out, and a copy of the XML printed out.
To me:
Work: Chronicles
Expression: 'Premiere Redaction, Proprement Dite'
Expression: A family
Expression: M.804 text
Manifestation: group of all M.804s (length 1)
Item: The M.804 Manuscript
Expression: Rob's transcription of the M.804 manuscript
Manifestion: TeX (digital copy)
Manifestation: Rendered TeX (paper)
Item: My copy at home.
Manifestion: XML
Item: Copy on my laptop
Item: Copy on a CD submitted for my PhD
Manifestation: Paper
Item: My copy at home
But FRBR doesn't allow for Manifestations or Expressions of Items, or
Manifestations of Manifestations or ...?
If I'd transcribed the scratches on the microfilm of the manuscript, then
we'd need another level to say that it's not the manuscript that I created
an expression of, it's a particular copy of a microfilm of that item.
