For reasons probably rather too complex to explain, we are at the
moment still starting in SGML, validating and transforming to XML
(using James Clark's SX), and then applying XSLT transforms using
XT without explicitly validating the XML document.
Having said that, I have from time to time run the IBM XML4J parser
as a validating parser and it seemed to do the job. I think the most
recent version of this is the Xerces collaboration with the Apache
folks, but I haven't actually used that yet. I think v 2.0.15 is still
available.
