Dear colleagues,

At the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the specialist of scandinavian
languages told me that he was able to make the difference between nynorsk
and bokmal.
He does not think that this distinstion is very useful for librairies
outside the scandinavian countries. That is why he agrees with me with the
usefulness of keeping a code for norwegian as a whole.
As a matter of fact, when the BnF sends its records to other librairies, it
will be easy to code all the records of norwegian documents only with "nor"
even if they are coded with the three codes in the library catalogue. But
if the library or the institution deals with scandinavian matters it will
also be easy to send the records with the three codes.

So, I am really in favor of what we have decided at our meeting. I think
that the way to use the codes should be dealt with in the library cataloger
guidelines.
