was a seperate game line from Endless Quest, although the setting was
used in some of the Endless
Quest books. It is also not entirely fair to credit Hickman and Weiss

Tracy was a module designer at TSR; Margaret book editor for Endless
Quest. The Dragonlance series was released during one of many TSR
financial slumps and after massive firings. According to Margaret, the
series succeeded because Tracy wrote a reading presentation for GenCom
that created the buzz for sales. The writing team also photocopied the
book so that the British publisher read it on his flight home and
increased the British print run.

R. A. Montgomery created the CYOA book series. We gave them away at
Reading is Fundemental (RIF) at local elementary school at least 30 years
ago. The series is still available. The younger CYOA were larger than
standard paperback and had titles like GORKA, SPACE MONSTER with about 60
pages.

Dr Who were other series.

R. L. Stine seems to be the major writer prior to his Goose Bump.
Publishers have always gone for the gimmick to get kids to buy books.
Reading for the Future (RFF) Utah always offer a few of the gimmicks
along with hard SF in our BoB (Box of Books) and Pass it along programs.
Kids do read both.
