Michael,
You'll be meeting a group of us from the University of Washington at your
upcoming EAD workshop in Bellingham (we're really looking forward to this!),
and tomorrow, Dan Pitti is visiting to give a presentation and consult with
us on implementing EAD here at the U. But when we saw your message about
testing the EAD Cookbook, we were intrigued. UW might, as an institution
just beginning to work with EAD, be able to provide feedback you wouldn't
get from more experienced EAD users. We do have at least some idea of what
EAD is about (Judy Tsou, who worked with Daniel at UC Berkeley, is here now,
and I've been following the development of EAD for some years), so we
probably would understand what the Cookbook aims to accomplish.
Then again, you might prefer more experienced users. I thought I'd let you
know that we are interested, in any case. We are not currently using an
SGML or XML editor. Would you provide that for the test? We use MS Word
for word processing, along with various HTML editors. We have several
HTML-encoded finding aids available (not encoded acc. to EAD -- but one of
these might constitute an interesting test case because we've digitized part
of the described collection -- and have prepared Dublin Core records for
each of those digitized images). If we'd need to purchase Author/Editor or
Xmetal in order to participate in the Cookbook test, that would probably
rule us out, since it would take several weeks for a software purchase to go
through.
What do you think? Thanks, and we'll see you in Bellingham.
