Machines and Accessories No. 00-07
Date: April 7, 2000
Subject: Models A-1, A-80, and B-79 talking book machines
are declared obsolete
NLS has concluded its review of talking book machines A-1,
A-80, and B-79. Because of their age and the unavailability
of parts, these machine models are declared obsolete.
Under no circumstances should these machines be recalled
from patrons, nor should they be disposed of while still
working properly. However, they should not be repaired or
shipped to the multistate centers. Ship all inoperative TBM
and CT-1s to Lodestar Recovery, Inc., 803 Mint Avenue, High
Point, NC 27260. Report all damaged machines on the
Obsolete and Damaged Equipment Report, form 73-162c, or
prepare a computer listing showing the model and serial
numbers, agency codes, and number of shipping labels needed.
Please remove batteries from any machines approved for
disposal and observe restrictions on donating these machines
to the public.
In addition, please continue to inform staff and repair
personnel that cassette machines C-80 and older machines are
obsolete, as are talking book machines A-79 and older.
