Subject: Cassette Book Machine (CBM) playback head fastening
A common repair action is to replace worn CBM playback heads.
Prior to January 2000, heads were fastened to the head base
assembly with screws secured with Sicomet B5 cement. This bond
is so tenacious that attempts to remove the screws sometimes
result in broken screws and the need to replace the entire
head base assembly. This potential problem has been
eliminated on new production machines by replacing screw and
cement with a Nylock Pack Screw. This is a self-locking
screw that adequately holds the head in place after azimuth
adjustment. However, in repair operations we will continue to
use the standard head screw secured with nail polish.
