PCC SACO Workshops at ALA Annual Conference

The Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) will
present two workshops Friday, July 7, 2000, in support of
SACO, the Subject Authority Cooperative Program of the
PCC.
The workshops are open at no charge on a first-come-
first-served basis to all catalogers interested in proposing
new
class numbers and changes to Library of Congress
Classification schedules (LCC) and new headings and changes
to the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH).
Training materials will be provided free of charge at the
workshop. PCC programs will comply with the Americans with
Disabilities Act.
At the end of these workshops, participants will be
better able to prepare classification number proposals for LCC
and subject proposals for LCSH.

Workshop A: Proposing New Class Numbers and Changes to
LCC

The instructor will cover the basic principles and
procedures in proposing new class numbers and changes to
class numbers in the Library of Congress Classification system
through review of relevant instruction sheets in the Subject
Cataloging Manual: Classification and appropriate examples.
This workshop was presented previously in January, 2000 at
ALA Midwinter, San Antonio.

Workshop B: Proposing New and Changed Subject Headings
for LCSH

The instructor will cover the principles and procedures
for proposing new and changed subject headings for inclusion
in the Library of Congress Subject Headings, through review of
relevant instruction sheets in the Subject Cataloging Manual:
Subject Headings and appropriate examples. This session is a
revised version of the basic SACO workshop which has been
offered at ALA from 1995 to 1999.
