I agree completely. Although I must say, I'm not such a fan of many of
the movies, either. But perhaps the best example of this is "Rita
Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" - the movie is incredibly better than
the book (though I think Morgan Freeman could do that to much better
written works). And it also breaks the other usual rule of movies - the
TNT tv-cut is actually better than the theater cut, which had large
quantities of extraneous swearing, most of which were easily removed.
