I agree that keyword indexing of the 505 is important. Now that the
subfield t exists you can also
index the title into a title browse index and I know several libraries that
do. While it is not advisable
to index the r in to the authority indices, many libraries have "general"
or "all" keyword indices that
include this subfield. I have also seen some libraries who have created
"name" indices that are
built from bibliographic records that include not only the 505 r but also
the 511 and other tags that
include names that are not in the proper authority form.

Dear Madams/Sirs,
I'm a cataloger working at IDC Publishers. IDC wants to make it's titles,
which are cataloged in MARC, available on the Internet. I have a question
about the 505 contents note: should this note be indexed for an
author/title
search, or is it only indexed for keyword searching? I also would like to
know what exactly is meant by keyword searching: does this mean all MARC
fields are searched (a full text search) or only a selection, for example
all main and added enties, all titles, all 5XX and all 6XX fields?
Yours truly,
