TECHNICAL NOTICE (JUNE 9, 2000)

     Additions to the MARC Code Lists for Relators, Sources,
                     Description Conventions

The following codes have been recently approved for use in MARC 21
records.  They will appear in the 2000 edition of the "MARC Codes
Lists for Relators, Sources, Description Conventions>". These codes
should not be used in exchange records until after July 30, 2000.

MARC Classification Source Codes
Changes:

ddc - Dewey decimal classification and relative index (subfield $2
     in field 052 [Authority/Bibliographic/Comm.Info.) "[use after
     07-30-2000]"

MARC Subject/Index Term Source Codes
Changes:

ericd - Thesaurus of ERIC descriptors (subfield $2 in field 655)
     "[use after 07-30-2000]"
gem - GEM [Gateway to Educational Materials] controlled
     vocabularies (subfield $2 in fields 600-651, 655) "[use after
     07-30-2000]"
ngl - Newspaper genre list (subfield $2 in field 655) "[use after
