Please note that this reports has links to various documents which are
still under development and discussion. BIBCO participants are invited
to send comments, etc. after which these documents will be finalized and
forwarded to the Policy Committee for consideration in November.
The bibliographic file maintenance (BFM) discussion is of importance to
all participants. Maintenance across formats will take on increased
importance as seriality issues become settled.

Note also that the Policy Committee has approved the charge and
membership of two new task groups and these have also been posted to the
web site. Both of these groups had their genesis at the recent
Operations Committee meetings and will be acting under the auspices the
Standing Committee on Standards. The 042 Task Group
http://lcweb.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/tg042.html) under the leadership of
Jennifer Bowen (Eastman School of Music) will take on the task of
exploring "the usefulness of developing a code for inclusion in the 042
field of a bibliographic record which would indicate that access points
for names on pre-AACR2 records have been evaluated" as well as making
recommendations on the most cost-effective mechanism for accomplishing
this should their findings indicate a need for this coding.
The PCC Task Force on Multiple Manifestations of Electronic Resources
(http://lcweb.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/tgmuler.html) under the leadership of
John Reimer (U. Georgia) will take on the task "of identifying the most
common types of versions and reproductions for textual resources
currently available and the most bibliographically significant
characteristics of each" with a view to making recommendations for their
disposition within workflows.
