"Phase shifting", even if possible, would certainly not be attainable
through irradiated injections. It could only be a light reflection
phenomenon and would have to be attainable through electromagnetic waveform
manipulation or mirrored "force field".
Still, I found the movie to be one of the best sf films in recent years
because it was more about the human condition and psychology than about
science and the special effects were incredible regardless of the suspension
of disbelief required by the science techniques. It was at least consistent
with its own premises, although the women certainly seemed to be unusually
sound sleepers. Being touched by anyone, visible or not, would wake any
normal person instantly.
