Marsha's comment triggered a call to Softquad support which revealed the
following two interesting facts.
By default, XMetaL 2.0 uses the Microsoft XSL transformation software (hence
the reference to the latest version of MSXML) rather than XT.
It appears that with the July 2000 release of MSXML3 Microsoft may well now
support all of the XSLT functions included in the EAD Cookbook templates. I
am extrapolating this from their web site, not from actual testing. This
new version may be downloaded from www.microsoft.com/xml
If you don't want to use the Microsoft tool, XMetaL 2.0 still supports the
use of XT. There apparently is a readme file in 2.0 under support/xslt that
explains how to configure the software to do so.
