Dear JAC members,

My study of differences in English and French names in the two parts of ISO
639 has been finished. Enclosed please find two documents (in MS Word 97,
RTF, and HTML formats): one with full comments and conclusions; one with
conclusions only.

There were a total of 80 items in my study. After the round of comments, 9
items need further study. Most of these items should be quite
straight-forward to resolve. I will come back to these items one by one, but
to summarize, they are:
  be / bel : Belarusian (English name)
  gd / gla : Scottish Gaelic (English and French names - cf separate
discussion)
  ga / gle : Irish (English and French names - cf separate discussion)
  gv / glv : Manx (English and French names - cf separate discussion)
  ki / kik : Kikuyu (English name)
  nn / nno : Norwegian Nynorsk (English and French names)
  nb / nob : Norwegian Bokmål (English and French names)
  es / spa : Spanish (the treatment of Castilian/castillan in English and
French)
  za / zha : Zhuang (English and French names - transcription)

All the other 71 items I consider finalized. The agreed names will be
included in my database, and in ISO/FDIS 639-1.

When the remaining 9 items are finalized, we have ONE set of English names
and ONE set of French names for the entire 639. I will re-structure my
database to reflect this, and make a new version available shortly.
