To: Readers of the EAD list
Several people suggested that an update on RLG's Archival Resources
Service might be of interest to this list. The service currently has a
total of 16,249 full text finding aids from 117 contributors. The finding
aids include EAD encoded finding aids in both SGML and XML, as well as
several that are represented only in HTML. In addition, over 500,000 AMC
records are included in the database. The service allows integrated
searching and retrieval across all of these resources. We have seen a
rapid growth in the number of finding aids over the last year and expect
the growth to continue. The database is updated every month, adding new
and revised guides to the service. For more information about the service
and how to contribute your own finding aids to the service, see
http://www.rlg.org/arr/index.html
There is no charge for including your finding aids and there is virtually
no time required from you or your staff to implement this. The
aggregation of these important research tools is an exceptional way to
promote your own archival resources to a wider world of researchers and to
make connections with dispersed and related collections.
