I think the "character not allowed" portion of the error message tells you a lot. When I was first debugging my documents for XSL transformation, that message usually told me that there was an emdash or endash embedded somewhere in the document and XT didn't like it. Another common character it will trip over is the ampersand. Just replace the characters with their HTML equivalents in the XML document and XT should work fine. For instance, replace "&" with "&".

I am just now getting into coding our finding aids using EAD and I am having
trouble converting the XML files to html.
This is what I type at the DOS prompt:
"xt.exe test.xml eadcbs3.xsl test.html"
This is the answer I get:
"java.net.MalformedURLException: unknown protocol: c"
With another file I typed:
"xt coll150.xml eadcbs3.xsl coll150.html"
And the answer I got was:
"file:/c:/windows/desktop/ead/transform/coll150.xml:2: character not
allowed"
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Leah
