John Clews asked "What happened to the code "ajm" and the language
Aljamia, in earlier
versions of the LC code list, which is also in NISO Z39.53:1994
Language Codes - a code list for the representation of names of
written languages?"
This code and the related caption were dropped from the NISO language
code list because Aljamia does not represent an individual language.
The term is used for Spanish and Portuguese (and perhaps a few other
languages) written in Arabic alphabet. Thus it is really a term for a
script, not a language.
