Kudos to Bob Kosovsky for his explanations and suggestions! This situation has
arisen before, and the solutions have not been implemented yet. It is time to
do so.
It would not be difficult to implement or manage, and I would further suggest
the listowner set the listserv so that confirmation of subscription is
necessary. If the mail bounces back, as in the case of a spammer with a bogus
email address the subscription can be rejected. In the case of advertisers
with legitimate email addresses, if spam is mailed to to the list, the
subscriber's address can be banned.
