Perhaps SoftQuad would let you download version an older version of X-Metal,
such as version 1.2 or 2.0. I am using the EAD Cookbook templates with both
these versions without a problem.

Subject: query
Hi,
I'm just getting started with trying to evaluate Xmetal and EAD for our
finding aids. I've looked at the Cookbook, taken the SAA class, and now
have downloaded the evaluation version of Xmetal 2.1 I've got xmetal 2.1
installed and ead.rlx is attached. I can't get the templates
eadcorporate.xml or eadperson.xml to work with xmetal 2.1 I downloaded
them but I couldn't find the directory the cookbook specified to put them
in, and when I do <File> <New> some "general" templates come up, but
those two aren't among them and I can't browse to add any more. Help?
I tried to open the archives of this list at LOC, but ran into an error
message there too...I'm on Netscape 4.75 for a browser if that matters.
Maybe the templates aren't necessary, but I thought I'ed lean pretty
heavily on the Cookbook and it's a bit disconcerting to miss things on the
first or second page, so to speak. Thanks for your help.
