In general, I support the idea of letting LC know that a BIBCO record has
been created for something they have in process. But I have some
questions and concerns:
What will the liaison do with this information? And what about other
records of LC's that we upgrade to AACR2 or full-level BIBCO level? (e.g.
lots of overseas office records have no call number, no access points
other than title, no subject headings, etc. but they aren't "in-process"
records as far as I know). I have a concern that sending notices of this
to our liaisons could bog them down further from getting other work for us
done (reviewing NACO headings, processing SACO proposals).
Finally, I'm not sure it's all that reasonable to ask our staffs to keep a
list of LC records that they upgrade. Presumably you would only want to
hear from the BIBCO coordinators, not individual catalogers? Perhaps a
better method overall would be to convince OCLC to develop a notification
system to LC of records that have been upgraded that would be automated
and not require us to gather do this by hand.
