Robert asked this about Ed Bryant - " Do you have any title
recommendations?"
Check out Bryant's collection -
Particle Theory. An interesting mix of science fiction and horror
tales. Released back in the early eighties in hard and paperback
editions.
Night Visions IV : Hardshell (1987) - published as both a hard
and softback. Contains several intriguing tales by Bryant (I believe
this is where he published tales about symbiotic smart bugs and aloof
yet fascinating predatory critters camouflaged as human women). Dean
Koontz and Robert McCammon also contribute.
CINNABAR - first published in 1976, I think, it contains a number of
interlinked, beautifully surreal stories set in or around a future city.
This is what the scholars of speculative fiction had to say about
Cinnabar.
"Clever and atmospheric work"- Pringle Ultimate SF, 67 ***. "The setting
for many of his stories .. is a California transmuted by SF devices and
milieux into an image, sometimes scarifying, sometimes joyful, of the
culmination of the American Dream .. The earlier stories of the sequence
intricately develop a strangely moving vision of the rococo, many-shaped
life by which mankind is ultimately destined to explicate itself"- CN SF
Encyclo.
His work is worth seeking out.
