We allow the public to use our library. Our Library is the official FOIA Reading Room for the agency. On the web site, we instruct the public to call and make an appointment to visit. Calling ahead of time also gives us the opportunity to discuss their research and determine if our library has materials to help them.
If someone shows up without making an appointment, they must show picture ID to get into the building and the secuirty staff phone us so that they can be escorted upstairs. When we are phoned by the security staff, we speak with the person at that time to determine what they need. If we are not able to help them, we tell them and tell the security staff that they are not to come to the Library. So, we do not have people from the public who come in and browse.
Sometimes, staff park their guests in the Library but that is a horse of a different color.

I have been asked to review our public access policy. What is your policy/procedure for allowing the public to use your library?
Thanks
